AP Chemistry Summer Assignment 2015-16

Greetings!  Welcome to AP Chemistry!

You will complete a series of assignments due at various points through out the summer. The purpose of the assignments are to keep you fresh on your first year chemistry material.
You are welcome to do all of the assignments immediately.  You do not need to wait until the last minute to do them. :)  I rarely grant extensions for this summer assignment.  All of the assignments will be available within the next week so if you know you are going to be gone during a deadline, plan accordingly.  These assignments are your first grades for the new school year.

I am available via email for help (scool@muhsd.org), however, I do travel a lot and "go off the grid" for days at a time.  Please take that into consideration when you are waiting for a reply.

Housekeeping

We will use several different platforms to communicate and do our assignments. Additionally, some of these tools will help you keep track of things.

Do these things IMMEDIATELY:
  1. Get a little background. Read the syllabus. Then complete the Google Form.
  2. Get a textbook.  Head out to the library and check out an AP Chemistry book.
  3. Join Google classroom. You should have been sent an invitation (May 13th). Otherwise you can join with the class code: 6hora1. There you will get announcements and some assignments. It is also a great place to post questions that you have.  There is also a phone app available for iOS and Android.
  4. Subscribe to the class calendar by going to this webpage and following the instructions. Have this calendar linked to your smartphone and you won't miss deadlines! Here is how to sync your Google calendar with an iPhone or other Apple products.  With Android products it is easier.
  5. Learn your Quia login. Quia is an online homework service that we will use for some assignments. Username is your first name, last name and 118 all jammed together,  for most you (there are a few exceptions). Your password was emailed to you from Quia on June 2nd. This is how Tony Stark would login:
  Username: tonystark118
  Password:  check your email

Note: If you were with me for the 2014-15 year in chemistry, I transferred you to the new class already and your login is the same.
Please email me immediately with questions or login issues.

Due Date #1 - Tuesday, June 30 at 11:59pm

Memorize your Polyatomic ions!

Every year I tell students to memorize these and they don't believe me how important this is.  Be different, get them memorized. The sooner you have them memorized, the better off you'll be.
