Unit 1 - An introduction to chemistry
In class you will sometimes receive a set of notes that coordinate with your lectures. Do not lose these!
Notes can be used to help you on your worksheets and on your online practices. Notes cannot be used on exams.
Online practices (often abbreviated as OP) are meant to help you with the material. They are not tests or quizzes, though sometimes the questions do show up on tests. You can use whatever resources you would like on an online practice. Online practices can be completed anywhere, even at home. You can do online practices as often as you like. They are done on the Quia website. Your login information was emailed to you. The minimum score you need to achieve to receive credit for an online practice is 70%.
Exams are often also administered online on Quia. Exams can only be taken in class, after all of the other assignments are completed. This means you cannot take exams in other classes or at home. Once you are ready for the exam, you will be given a secret word that is good to unlock the exam. The secret word changes every day, which is why I often call it "the word of the day."
For exams you are only allowed a laminated periodic table, whiteboard & marker, and a calculator, as appropriate. No scratch paper is allowed. You cannot use your notes or any websites. You are not to talk to other people while you are taking your exam. To do so is considered cheating and will earn you a score of zero on the exam and I will not allow you to retake it. Sometimes I may have you take it in the back of the classroom where it is quieter.
Exams can be taken up to 3 times on 3 different days. I will give you the best score out of the 3. The idea is that you review and study so that you do better the next time.

Physical & Chemical Changes Notes - Fri, Sept 11
These are the notes from that day. They go on page 19. Title in the top right hand corner with Physical and Chemical Changes.
There was a handout of drawings of test tubes. Cut out and place in your notebook on page 19. Each test tube should be labeled with one of the signs of a chemical reaction and have a color drawing or representation of that statement. |

Unit 1 Lessons
About Missed LecturesIt is the expectation that you come to my website when you are absent and have missed a lecture. I will not allow copying notes from a classmate. Many times mistakes are made, the writing is unclear, etc. More often than not, you will find video lectures here that you are expected to watch. They go into much more detail than your friend's notes. With the video lectures, you can actually hear my explanation instead of copying numbers without knowing why.
